Reading time

Due to being sick and being on vacation at my Mom's house, I've been reading a lot lately. My new favorite books are the Stephanie Plum series by Janet Evanovich. The books tell the tale of a 30 year old bounty hunter named Stephanie Plum. She is a little bit nutty, a whole lot stubborn, and she is always finding herself in a new mess involving stun guns, blowing up a car, or diving in garbage. When you mix in the two men she loves, her crazy family and even crazier friends, you can't stop from laughing. I love that these books are generally pretty funny and light hearted, and that they still usually have a mystery of some sort. If you're looking for a nice quick read, without a really dark tone(most of the time anyway,) these books are for you. The new one comes out on Tuesday, and I'm trying to decide if I should go buy it then, or wait for it to show up at the used bookstore or on paperback swap. Too bad I don't do patient very well...

Anyone else out there read these books? Just wondering why I've never heard of them before.

Decisions

I have been pretty absent from my blog lately, and I'm not sure if that will change in the near future or not. I am just not as into it as I once was. I haven't been reading my friends blogs as often as I'd like either. I think maybe some of the paid posts made it more of a chore to blog, and less of something fun. Speaking of which, I have a bunch of posts that have to be written today, so um, just bare with me okay? I'll decide soon what I'm going to do, if I'm going to continue posting or shut down this blog or leave it as is. We'll see.

I thought once I got my new laptop computer I would be into blogging more, but I still don't have time.

The best job you ever had?

I've been thinking a lot about jobs today. At some point I will probably go back to work (although it's debatable how old the kids will be) and I'll have to figure out what kind of job I want to have. I have had a few in my life, I've worked as a preschool teacher, a nanny, a waitress, an aid in a transitional housing facility for the mentally ill, and a checker in a grocery store. I've also done a bunch of random office jobs, mostly when I was in college, I worked in the college offices a lot. I think the most fun I had though was when I worked as a barista! Yes I had to be there at the crack of dawn, but I was usually done by 1 or 2 in the afternoon. I loved the smell that came from the freshly ground beans in the espresso machines. It was a fast paced job and was rarely boring. I was also 18 and worked with one of my best friends at the time. We had so much fun! Maybe I just remember it fondly because it was a pretty carefree time in my life and it was fun? Who knows. I probably wouldn't want to do it now.

Stuff

I am amazed at how much krap er I mean important stuff Jeff and I have collected over the years. We have both lost people that were important to us, and because of that have collected more stuff. Some of these things are small, likes Jeff's old pocket watch that I think came from his Grandpa. I have two sewing machines, one is a huge treadle and has been in my family for almost 100 years. The "new" sewing machine is smaller and was made in the '30s. I have these old lamps that came out of my Great Grandma's house when I was in college. I thought they were pretty and never really thought about them being old. Then I was visiting my mom's house last summer and found some old drawings that my Aunt did in high school. She was born in the early 50's and I think the drawings were dated around '68 or so. Anyway there in her art book was a sketch of one of my lamps. Now I know in my head, that all of these things are just that, they are things. But to know that my Mom and her sisters, my Grandma and two generations of great Grandma's have all sewed on the little sewing machine make them special to me.

housing kaboom

I've mentioned before that we have looked at houses in the inland empire. The rate of foreclosure in Riverside County alone is crazy. I found this blog that has a lot of great information about the foreclosures with actual info on how much houses sold for a few years ago, along with how much they are selling for now or what they are listed at. If it wasn't so sad for all the people involved, it's actually pretty funny. http://housing-kaboom.blogspot.com/

Ugh

What is my problem with cell phones? My cell phone died on my trip to Oregon. Apparently, the problem I'm having with it is not uncommon, although I never saw the reviews about the software problems until after I bought the phone of course. Some people have problems when they get a memory upgrade for it but I didn't ever bother getting more memory so I'm not sure why I had a problem. Hopefully I can get it resolved soon.

Insurance.

Did you know that you can buy children's life insurance? I have mixed feelings about it. I would never want to insure my child's life, I mean I can't imagine something happening to my children, and if it did, I sure wouldn't want to benefit from it financially. That being said someone once pointed out to me that funerals cost a lot of money, and it would be nice to not have to worry about that if something happened. I still don't think I could do it though.

It's getting warm

and I would love to have some exterior shutters on our house. When it's really warm out, you can feel the heat coming in through the edges of the windows. The sun beats in even with curtains up, and I bet having some shutters up would really help with the heat in the house, not to mention the AC bill. Maybe I'd actually be able to get the house down to under 80 degrees when it's hot.

Feeling better.

Anthony has been weaned for a whole month now. I feel like I'm finally back to normal, I must have gotten all of that progesterone or whatever those hormones are out of my system and now I feel a little more level and much less likely to bite someone's head off, or cry because Jeff looked at me the wrong way. Yay for me! LOL

My computers

The first computer I ever bought was a dell. At first it was a good computer, but over time I became less of a fan. The dell memory just didn't seem to be that good. After not owning the computer for very long, the hard drive crashed and I lost everything. This was all before I had geek for a husband of course. Now he does the computer purchasing and fixing.

The advantage

So what is the medicare advantage. I keep hearing about it. Obviously I'm not quite old enough for things like medicare, but that doesn't stop me from being curious about such things. I guess I'll have to do some research and satisfy my curiosity. I'm just one of those people who is always curious, researching things, reading things. I like to have lots of knowledge of a subject before I make a decision or a purchase or whatever. It kind of drives my husband crazy. LOL
